One day, while walking through the desert,

a crab woman found refuge in a giant cactus. The cactus cradled her, allowing her to peer into her past. She remembered the joy of creativity and how complete it made her feel.

Inside the cactus, she discovered an ocean. The shores were lined with pink barnacles, and the crab woman made her home there. However, time passed and she realized beauty is best shared. She surfaced renewed, quenched, with a fresh burst of energy and spinning wheels in her head.

Crystal Elise Casas

Crystal creates ceramics from a communal studio on the Southside of San Antonio, TX.  Though she studied fine art in her youth, she eventually stepped away from the conventional art world to seek nontraditional outlets for her craft. Over time, she discovered she values everyday, organic expressions, finding inspiration in the often overlooked moments of daily life.

Fifteen years later, Crystal has leaned into accessible, intuitive methods of connecting with clay.  Her process is deeply personal—she compares it to embodying a soft-shell crab, embracing vulnerability in her studio, and emerging with vibrant bursts of color that reflect a sense of renewal. These pieces invite others to bring light into the darkest corners of their own spaces, regardless of their background.

Thank you for being here to witness this transformative journey - Softshell Ceramics is a celebration of trusting your intuition, harnessing your softness, and coming home to yourself.
